What Are the Precautions for Wooden Door Installation?

The Door: A Crucial Element in Assessing the Quality of a House

The door is not simply an entrance or exit; it is an essential component of any home that affects the overall impression and experience of the occupants. Whether entering or leaving the house, every family member interacts with the door, making it easily accessible and significant. Therefore, the condition of the door directly impacts the perception of the house as well as the comfort and convenience of the occupants. Unfortunately, problems with doors are not uncommon, leading to injuries or hindrances in daily movements. Moreover, with the increasing popularity of wooden doors, the issue of expansion has become prevalent. So, how can we resolve the problem of wooden door expansion? What considerations should we keep in mind while installing wooden doors?

1. Resolving Wooden Door Expansion

What Are the Precautions for Wooden Door Installation? 1

Wooden doors are known to experience thermal expansion and cold contraction. In humid environments, these doors are susceptible to swelling and subsequent deformation, making it challenging to close them. A mere replacement of hinges and door pockets may not effectively solve this issue. It is advisable, if circumstances permit, to change to a waterproof and moisture-proof door, which offers a more reliable solution.

Another reason for wooden door problems is moisture affecting the surrounding walls. In such cases, moisture-related damage to the wall can lead to the wooden door being affected as well. To tackle this, it is crucial to understand the specific cause of the problem. If only the wooden door is affected by moisture, proper ventilation or replacement with a waterproof and moisture-proof door is recommended. In some cases, properly trimming the deformed parts of the wooden door can help it close tightly. If the problem persists, it is essential to investigate the water supply line for any damages or leaks.

2. Precautions during Wooden Door Installation

When installing a wooden door, certain precautions must be observed:

Firstly, it is vital to apply necessary moisture-proof and anti-corrosion treatment to the door opening before installation. During wall painting, non-corrosive and non-melting waterproof materials should be used to protect the wooden door from any abnormal impact or contact with corrosive substances.

Secondly, hanging objects in the middle of the door leaf or allowing sharp objects to bump or scratch the door should be avoided. Opening or closing the door leaf should not involve excessive force or angle to prevent damage.

Thirdly, it is advisable to maintain indoor air relative humidity between 60% - 75%, particularly in spring and winter. Good indoor ventilation, along with maintaining optimal humidity levels, is crucial for preserving the integrity of wooden doors. This helps prevent deformation caused by excessive wet temperature differences, corrosion and rusting of metal accessories, or detachment of edge sealing and finishing materials. In winter, wood products should be kept away from electric heaters or other heating equipment to avoid thermal deformation or surface damage.

Lastly, moving parts such as hinges and locks should be tightened promptly if they become loose, and lubrication should be applied to hinge joints to prevent any squeaking or friction sounds. If the lock does not open smoothly, a small amount of pencil lead foam can be applied to the keyhole. However, one should refrain from arbitrarily injecting lubricating oil.

In conclusion, the door holds immense significance, not only for its practicality but also as a reflection of a family's character. As the saying goes, "doors are one-to-one," emphasizing the importance of doors throughout history. It is crucial to prioritize door-related issues and take necessary steps to ensure their proper functioning and longevity. By implementing appropriate measures and precautions, one can mitigate problems like wooden door expansion and create a pleasant and functional living environment.
